At The Water Rat in Ripon, North Yorkshire, we are open daily from 12- 11pm Tuesday to Sunday and our aim is to provide great beer of which our cask ales:-

We offer fine wines and traditional English pub fayre which, where possible, we source locally; *our meats are delivered fresh from Newby Hall Farm Shop and our cheese from Shepherd’s Purse to name but two sources. We welcome everyone to the Water Rat whether it be for a quick drink, a family meal or to catch up with the locals around the bar for the evening. If you’re celebrating, you can even hire our conservatory to set off your celebrations in style.

Landlord - Rick Jones:
Rick progressed onto catering college after he finished full time education and he started his career as a commis chef at Valentinos in Ripon. After this he worked his way up the hospitality ladder at The Old Deanery, Ripon where he progressed from Reception to Restaurant Supervisor and then to Deputy Manager over the three years he was there. At this point he furthered his knowledge of ales by working for a micro brewery in the dales. Rick purchased the lease of the Water Rat in February 2007 and after a major setback of the June 2007 flood, has seen it grow from strength to strength. He also runs a local event management company and works very closely with the local education authorities. Believing that the catering industry has given him a great deal, he aims to give something back and so helps at the local schools and colleges via demonstrations and creating enthusiasm with local students for both the catering industry and entrepreneurialism.
Head Chef - Kevan Lambert:
Kevan joined the Water Rat in April 2008 after many years at The Black a Moor, Ripon and Stavely Arms, North Stainley. He is a dedicated, vibrant individual who has amassed a great deal of experience and skills during his twenty years as a professional chef in the Catering industry. Kevan has proven ability of running kitchen brigades - whether catering for large functions, or small, exclusive A La Carte establishments. He has a broad culinary experience, gained through the preparation of a vast variety of dishes for prestigious venues. Raised in Leyburn he has a great knowledge of local produce which is of immense use to him here at The Water Rat.
